BrainMoves helps preschoolers with problems paying attention, learning, organizing and doing well in school. The movements help children easily cross the middle of their bodies and corrects other problems associated with learning problems and delayed development. BrainMoves also help children relax and manage stress. The movements can improve communication skills, social skills, relationships, smooth out transitions, improve behavior problems, reduce symptoms of chemical imbalances like ADD and ADHD, anxiety and depression and help resolve issues with eating and food. You can also use the BrainMoves movements with children of all ages with special needs.
Some of the BrainMoves movements are similar to some early developmental reflexes such as crawling that babies automatically do to create the neural synapes or connections they need to grow, learn and develop new skills. When we have a strong healthy structure in the brain preschoolers are able to relax, think clearly when learning and solving problems and understanding their feelings more easily.
Some of the BrainMoves movements relax some reflexes that are “stuck on,” such as the ‘freeze, fight or flight’ reflex and developmental reflexes. These reflexes can be chronically stuck on in people of any age, especially if a person is stressed, has a learning disability, has a brain that seems to be 'wired differently' and/or if he or she is doing something that is too hard for him or her. BrainMoves helps release stress, helps children reach their developmental milestones, focus and learn more easily. The movements also help children stay calm and manage their emotions and impulses more easily.
Massaging and/or holding parts of their bodies help preschoolers relax and think more clearly. This improves the circulation in their bodies and helps their spinal columns, muscles, tendons, bones, organs and brains work better.
By relaxing and restoring muscles and tendons to their natural length, children are able to gain access to or improve the physical skills they need to optimal learning, such as fine motor skills, eye-hand coordination, focus and coordination.
A positive belief is simply a statement that we want to be true. For example, a common positive belief for preschoolers is: "It is easy for me to listen."
When we do the BrainMoves movements with a positive belief it tells the child's brain what problem we want to improve and where to create the new cross lateral neural pathways in his brain. You can be more specific with positive beliefs, saying, for example, "It is easy for me to listen to my mother," or "I am willing to listen at school."
Relaxing reflexes helps preschoolers have more control over their emotions. It helps them to think first and then respond to situations and other people instead of reacting automatically. Preschoolers usually feel more relaxed, more positive and confident and stronger right away when they do the BrainMoves movements with positive beliefs. You can get similar results using BrainMoves by stating an intention, such as "Let's do the Duckling to help us focus."
